Hanbok Rental Deposits, Passports and Damage Fees: Check Your Shop’s Terms
ID, deposits and damage rules vary by shop and booking channel. Do not assume every hanbok shop holds a passport, charges the same deposit or treats a stain the same way. Ask for the terms of your exact package before you pay.
A deposit is separate from the rental price
Oneday’s official guide lists a standard cash deposit of ₩10,000 per outfit. For international visitors it describes one passport per group plus ₩10,000 per person, or a passport photo plus ₩50,000 per outfit. These are that operator’s published alternatives, not a Seoul-wide rule. If you need your original passport during the day, agree an acceptable arrangement before booking.
Seohwa’s guide also lists a ₩10,000 cash deposit. Confirm when it is returned, what deductions may apply, and how the shop records the amount. Keep the rental receipt and deposit record separately so a refundable sum is not confused with your spending budget.
Damage charges are not uniform
MOA’s published terms discuss repair charges starting from ₩30,000 and potentially reaching the garment price, depending on damage. Studio KJD says it may assess repair or replacement fees. This means a claim that no shop publishes any damage guidance would be wrong.
Ask how existing wear, stains, rain, tears and missing accessories are handled. There is no reliable basis here to promise that food marks will always be free or that every outfit has been dry-cleaned between customers. Photograph existing marks and the accessories before leaving, and point them out to staff. Report an accident promptly rather than treating your deposit as a maximum liability.
Know the clock and the return deadline
Oneday lists ₩6,000 per additional hour and a further ₩10,000 charge for a late return without prior notice. That example cannot be applied to another shop. A full-day package still ends at its agreed return time; a shop’s closing time may be later than its final return time.
Save these four answers
- What ID is needed, and is an original retained?
- How much refundable deposit is required, and by what payment method?
- When does rental time start, and what happens if you are late?
- What cancellation and damage terms apply to this booking?
Keep the written package terms and any accepted changes. For an actual dispute, ask the shop and the booking platform for an itemised explanation; this page does not determine your legal refund entitlement. See the booking checklist and same-duration price comparison.
